A body of a man has been found next to a three story block of luxury flats on Maybole Road, Ayr.
Police raced to the grim discovery at around 12.35pm and immediately put a corden in place near the entrance to numbers 36-40, while forensic officers combed the scene.
Two uniformed police officers stood guard in front of the cordon and a white tarpaulin was placed over the corpse.
One onlooker said: "There was a heavy police presence when I drove past and it looks like something serious has happened."
A Police spokesman said: "We can confirm we were called to an address at Maybole Road at 12.35pm following the sudden death of a man.
"The cause of death is unexplained and our inquiries are continuing.
"The incident unfolded just across from a precinct of shops including a Tesco Express."
