Luxury aparthotel to open in Edinburgh's Grassmarket

Serviced apartments operator Staycity Group is to open its third Wilde Aparthotel next month in Edinburgh.

The new venue in Grassmarket follows today's opening in Berlin and its first offering under the luxury brand in Covent Garden, London.

Its Edinburgh property, part of a mixed use retail and residential development, will have 128 studio, one-bed and two-bed apartments, a gym, guest lounge and Staycafé. It opens on December 2.

Staycity already offers serviced apartments near Haymarket in Edinburgh among venues in 12 European cities. The 48-apartment Berlin, Checkpoint Charlie  property is Staycity’s first in Germany and is part of a new scheme occupying the best-known crossing point of the Berlin Wall. The Wilde Aparthotels brand is inspired by Irish writer Oscar Wilde.

Staycity Group CEO and co-founder Tom Walsh said: “One of the key prerequisites for Wilde is that they’re central to the heart of the city. Both the Berlin and Edinburgh properties are in stunning locations with the best each city has to offer on their doorstep. It’s exciting to see the Wilde brand taking shape as we add to the estate."

Staycity Group reported a 2.4% rise in like-for-like sales in the first half of 2019, on the back of a rise in occupancy and average daily rates, and turnover for 2019 is on course for €81 million, up 18% on 2018.
