Luxembourg removed from Scotland quarantine exemption list as coronavirus cases rise

Luxembourg is the latest country to have quarantine restrictions reimposed following an increase of coronavirus cases.

Passengers from Luxembourg will now be required to quarantine for 14 days on arrival in Scotland.

It comes after Health Secretary Matt Hancock warned of a "second wave starting to roll across Europe".

On Saturday, the Scottish Government also removed Spain from the quarantine exemption list, due to an increased number of cases of coronavirus in the last few days.

The public health measures for Luxembourg will come into force at midnight tonight.

Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf said: “This decision is based on the latest available data from the Joint Biosecruity Centre and it gives another clear indication that the virus is active and still spreading. We have always maintained that we are closely monitoring the pandemic situation in all countries and we will impose quarantine requirements as necessary in a bid to protect the public.

“This virus is showing a resurgence in areas and it should not be forgotten how deadly it remains. Our priority to is supress the virus, prevent it from being transmitted and protecting public health.”
