Luxe home interiors: the best candles to buy this winter

Can you distinguish the Diptyques from the duds?

Candles are a fairly divisive topic at H&P: do you go for the name, or scent alone? How important is the glass vase (and its reuse potential)? And what about the supermarket lookalikes? Reunited in our discord, that last one was a unanimous “avoid”.

The good ones aren’t cheap of course, while great ones are the ultimate extravagance.

But then, is there anything better than coming home to light a luxe, quality candle that looks as beautiful as it smells?

Here’s our pick of the statement candles to splash out on this winter.

SAVE

Diptyque’s Baies candle is one of the brand’s most iconic scents, the difference with this one is a stylish graphic vessel design.

Boy Smells’ figurare candle is a spicy blend of black pepper with fig, rose and lavender — without being overpowering. One for those looking for a chic alternative to traditional festive scents.

Loewe’s scented ceramic candles come in brilliant colours and the fragrances are both unusual and accurate, such as this beetroot scent.

Available with three aromatherapy blends: Create (energising orange and black pepper), Home (restorative camomile and geranium) and Soul (soothing neroli and ylang ylang). The Eym + Laguna B candles cost £115 from Eymnaturals.com.

Fornasetti’s lidded candles make brilliant storage pots after the wax is finished – this cocktail design has a slightly kitsch retro feel to it.
