Luton Town are already looking ahead to Leeds United with relegation on the agenda

It may be almost two weeks until Leeds United pay them a visit, but the Luton Town players are already starting to mentally prepare for the clash.

Following the Hatters’ fourth consecutive league defeat at the weekend, captain Martin Cranie admitted the game against Leeds United would be a ‘test of character’.

Speaking after the 3-0 loss away to Reading, Cranie said: “We will have a look at the game in the next few days and then put that to bed because we can’t dwell on what has happened, we can only look forward on what is coming.

“It’s Leeds next, we’ve got to be ready mentally and physically.”

Defeats against Fulham, Birmingham City, Nottingham Forest and now Reading have seen Luton drop to 21st in the table, just one point above the relegation zone, on the joint-worst run of form in the league.

Cranie admitted: “Obviously when you have a run of four defeats on the bounce it’s tough to come back from, but it’s going to be a test of character for the lads now.

“I mean there’s no point in us coming in with our heads down, we have to get on with it.

“We have 30 games left in this league and it’s not done by a long way (relegation). We need to get back in training and work hard for the next game.”

Former Huddersfield Town centre back Cranie has made 10 appearances for Luton since signing from Sheffield United in the summer.

He was part of the squad which saw the Blades promoted out of the Championship last season.

The Whites visit Kenilworth Road on Saturday, November 23 for the first time since meeting Luton Town in the second round of the League Cup back in 2016.

The Whites came out on the right side of a 1-0 victory with a Tyler Denton goal proving enough to take Leeds into the next round.
