Luss fighter Hannah Rankin impresses on welterweight debut in South Africa

Hannah Rankin impressed on her welterweight debut, with a clinical victory against former South African double champion Kholosa Ndobayini in Cape Town last Friday (March 12).

The Luss born fighter, 30, produced a dominant showing on her return to the ring for the first time since defeat to Savannah Marshall in October, securing a unanimous decision victory 77-75 80-73 78-74.

It took the former world champion little time to get into her groove in her new weight division, as she outworked her opponent , landing a succession of sharp shots.

Ndobayini continued working hard, however, but was outclassed by Rankin’s power, technique and fitness in the ring.

And afterwards, Hannah revealed that she enjoyed dropping a weight class, having previously competed at super welterweight and middleweight divisions. She said: “It’s my first time down at welterweight and I like this weight!

“Huge thanks to my whole team and to all of my sponsors and supporters. Without you guys these things wouldn’t be possible.

“Now onto the next one.”

Coach Noel Callan added: “Hannah Rankin is back — with a classy behind-the-jab performance against a real tough two-time champion opponent.”
