Luss boxer set to return to the ring in Scotland next month

Hannah Rankin will return to the ring next month at the venue of her memorable world title success in June.

The Luss fighter will return to action just over two months after losing her IBO Super Welter Weight belt to the undefeated Swede Patrica Berghult, as she takes on Ghanaian veteran Gifty Amanua Ankrah at Paisley’s Lagoon Centre on February 8.

Ankrah is a two-time world title challenger and is ranked fifth by the WBC in the super welter weight division – with Hannah admitting that she isn’t one to take the safe option.

After the announcement she said: “I’m back!

“I start 2020 off with a fight against double world title challenger and WBC number five Gifty Ankrah.

“I’ve never been one to take the easy route and I won’t start now.”

Thirty eight-year-old Ankrah first fought back in 2003 and has recorded eight wins from 15 fights – six of which have come via knockout.

The Ghanaian was last in action in September 2018 when she lost by unanimous decision to Croatian star Ivana Habazin – who fights Rankin’s training partner, and double Olympic gold medalist, Claressa Shields, later this week for the vacant WBC and WBO super welter weight titles.

Speaking to the Lennox after her defeat in November, Hannah revealed that she was keen to learn from her mistakes and come back stronger.

She said: “It was very emotional but you’ve got to move on, I’m quite a resilient person.

“I’ll learn from my mistakes and you’ll see me back on a winning streak in the new year for sure.”
