Lush’s New $12 Bath Bomb Is Raising Money For Australia’s Trans Community

Lush has unveiled its new ‘Liberation Bath Bomb’ — a swirly blue, pink and white nod to the trans pride flag — in collaboration with TransHub, demonstrating the brand’s allyship with the trans and gender-diverse community.

The bath bomb comes in response to the Queensland government’s decision to pause gender-affirming hormone treatment and care for teenagers under 18, made earlier this year.

“We cannot stand by while harmful misinformation about the trans and gender-diverse community goes unchallenged. As a company built on campaigning for the things we care about the most, we believe we have a responsibility to provide a platform for truth, education, and empathy,” Jessielee Pearce, Lush Cosmetics’ Advocacy and Activism Executive, said in a statement.

CEO of ACON and TransHub Michael Woodhouse told PEDESTRIAN.TV that it’s really important that the community recognises people deserve the opportunity to live their lives as authentically as they can.

“We’re at a time where there’s some pretty ugly debates going on about trans people’s lives. It’s really helpful when people right across the community, including big brands like Lush, stand up and show their solidarity,” Woodhouse said.

With mass anti-migration marchesTrump in office again and the scary and uncertain political climate, we are currently moving towards a right wing, conservative swing.

Woodhouse expressed that the current political debate around trans issues makes people feel as though they’re justified in expressing hate and abuse towards transgender and gender diverse people.

“When these debates become political, become about people with limited experience of the transgender diverse community, or of the evidence debating people’s bodies and lives, that takes a real toll on people,” he said.

“It’s really important right now, that we follow the evidence, that we provide transgender diverse people with access to high quality healthcare that all of us would expect rather than be engaged in moral debates,” he said.

Woodhouse expressed how it’s also important for people to educate themselves about transgender and gender diverse people, especially if they don’t know anyone who is trans in their own lives. And while TransHub is primarily a source of information for trans and gender diverse people to understand what options are available to them, it’s also a hub for allies to learn.

“It’s a good way to demystify a subject that perhaps many people haven’t got direct experience of themselves or within their families, but maybe eager to learn and understand about trans experience in Australia today,” Woodhouse said.

The Liberation Bath Bomb ($12) represents the colours of the trans flag in a swirl of blue, pink and white. To show the brand’s support of the trans community, Lush is donating 75 per cent of profits to TransHub, who will use the funds to continue providing resources and information about gender affirming care for trans and gender diverse people in Australia.
