Lush leases Poole warehouse for recycling returned bottles and packaging

Cosmetics retailer Lush will create a major recycling operation for returned product bottles and containers after signing a lease at a newly built warehouse in the Dorset town.

Lush, which is also headquartered in Poole, has signed up for a 10-year stay at a 40,000 sq ft building at Fleets Corner Business Park.

The business, which has 951 stores globally selling bath bombs, haircare products, skincare and makeup, has upsized its recycling process capacity following the launch of its ‘Bring It Back’ scheme in the UK and Ireland.

The company is encouraging its customers to return empty or used recyclable packaging, as it seeks to get full control of its waste management from its manufacturing process.

Natalia Davies, environmental officer at Lush Manufacturing, said: “Our aim is to evolve from being a recycling hub, to become a circular hub using the guiding principles of zero waste and circular economy.

“Our vision is to create no waste and use the right systems that have no impact on our planet. Fleets Corner is rapidly becoming an ideal home for many of our large departments.

“The collaboration between Fleets Estate and Lush will for sure support us in our mission to 'Leave The World Lusher Than We Found It', with innovation and environmentally friendly practices and alternatives to our buildings."

Lush’s new unit is one of five new warehouses at Fleets Corner Business Park, which fronts Nuffield Industrial Estate.

The unit contains first-floor office space and there is parking for 78 vehicles on a 2.1-acre site, which includes a gated yard.

Property consultancy Vail Williams acted in the deal on behalf of Lush, while Goadsby represented landlord Federated Hermes.

Simon West, a Partner at Vail Williams working from the consultancy’s Bournemouth office, said: “This is a significant property deal in Poole, with Lush generating local employment and reusing containers and packaging in an environmentally responsible manner.”

Other occupiers at Fleets Corner Business Park, include a new Travelodge hotel, Happy Homewares, Starbucks and builders merchant Selco.
