Lurgan Park needs better lights, Councillor says

A Lurgan councillor has called for new lighting to be installed in the town’s biggest park.

Speaking at a meeting of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council’s leisure and community services committee, Alliance Party Councillor, Peter Lavery said such lighting would dramatically increase the use of Lurgan Park during the darker evenings.

“I am just looking at the increase in usage of our community trails and in particular Carnagh Forest, which has seen something like a 307 per cent increase,” said Cllr Lavery.

“This is a very positive story and the one thing it shows, in my mind, is that when you invest in a facility, usage increases.

“This is why I want officers to take a look at the lighting up of Lurgan Park.

“I believe it is a tremendous outdoor space in the town and certainly one, that if it was better lit, could see increased usage in the darker evenings.

“It is certainly something I will be campaigning for as I do think it would be of great benefit to residents of Lurgan.”
