Lupe Fiasco to perform in Bristol as he heads to UK for first time in a decade

Hip hop fans in Bristol are in for a treat later this year as a name familiar to many has been announced to perform in the city.

Lupe Fiasco rose to fame in 2006 with the release of his debut album, Food & Liquor, and went on to release four further acclaimed studio albums.

With 3.5 million 'likes' on Facebook and almost four million monthly plays on Spotify, the 37-year-old's biggest hits include Superstar, Kick, Push, Daydreaming, The Show Goes On and Battle Scars.

Along with rappers Common, Mos Def and Talib Kweli, he has been credited as a pioneer of the conscious hip hop movement, which focuses on social issues.

His widely praised debut album was nominated for three Grammy Awards in 2007 including Best Rap Album, and Fiasco walked away with Best Urban/Alternative Performance for Daydreamin'.

Although his sound has leaned more towards pop than classic hip hop in recent years, next month he is taking his seminal debut album on tour.

After playing major venues in his native America and across Europe, he heads to England for the first time in 10 years where he will play only three cities - including Bristol.

The rapper, who is also described as an entrepreneur and activist, will perform at Bristol's O2 Academy on June 8.

Tickets

Fiasco will perform his biggest and most well-known hits as well as newer material at the gig, which is expected to sell out.

Tickets are priced at £28.90 and are available on Ticketmaster's website.
