Lunchtime police car chase stuns residents as officers continue search for driver

A police chase in the Ashton area yesterday left residents stunned as police swarmed the area.

Comments flooded local resident Facebook groups from around 12:20pm yesterday (Tuesday, October 26) wondering why police were in the area and why a helicopter was circling above.

In a statement, Avon and Somerset Police said officers were pursuing a car that failed to stop for police on Cumberland Road, Bristol.

Witnesses say that the car chase went through Kingston Road, and that there was a big police presence on Hayes Road.

A resident on a local Facebook group said that the car was dumped by the fleeing men outside of her house, preventing her from leaving.

The driver had fled the scene, and officers began a search of the area, which involved the police helicopter being deployed.

One resident said that police dogs had also been seen alongside officers searching the area for the driver on foot.

Witnesses say that the helicopter was circling the area for 15 minutes "at least".

The driver was not found, and Avon and Somerset Police are now asking that anyone with information call 101 and give the call handler reference number 5221251406.
