Lumpy skin disease: Locked veterinary centres hurdle for treatment of cows in western Rajasthan

JAISALMER: In western Rajasthan, including Jaisalmer and Barmer district, lumpy skin disease has been rapidly spreading among cows and has reached an alarming situation. A large number of cows have died due to lack of adequate treatment for this disease.

In Jaisalmer district, more than 184 posts out of 272 have been lying vacant in the animal husbandry department and around 75 veterinary centres of 124 are lying locked due to which cows are not getting proper medical care.

District collector Tina Dabi said that the animal husbandry is continuously conducting surveys in regard to lumpy skin disease. Till now a survey of more than 2 lakh cows has been done and more than 10,000 cows were found affected with this disease and out of which over 6,000 cows have recovered. Today the chief secretary has been informed about the situation in this regard through video conference.
