Luminate After Dark show at Margam Park is cancelled

A magical light show that was due to return to Margam Park in 2020 has been cancelled with a promise to return in 2021.

The spectacular light trail located in the grounds of the country park took crowds by storm at its first ever showing in Wales last year.

This year the mile-long trail, called Luminate Wales, had been due to light up Neath Port Talbot from November 19 to December 24.

But on Tuesday organisers announced it was being cancelled because of coronavirus.

The company behind the event, Luminate UK, had linked up with Carers Trust Wales as its nominated charity partner for this year.

But a statement on their website said: "After much consultation and consideration, it is with a heavy heart that we have had to make the decision to cancel Luminate at Margam Park for 2020.

"We were confident of our ability to host a safe, secure event, which we hoped would have provided a much needed uplifting end to the year.

"However, with the ever-developing Covid situation, the increased number of local lockdowns and recommended travel restrictions across Wales, we are really disappointed to say that it is no longer viable or operationally possible for us to proceed as planned this year."

It added: "Thank you again for your continued support and anticipated patience. We are so sad to not be returning to Margam Park for 2020. But here’s hoping for an amazing 2021!"

They said that people who had already bought tickets can transfer their booking to 2021 or to obtain a refund.
