Lulu 'excited to return to roots' as she films new movie playing Scottish character

Scots singing sensation Lulu revealed that she is set to star in a new movie, playing a Scottish character.

The Shout singer joined Ranvir Singh and Robert Rinder on today's Good Morning Britain to talk about her exciting upcoming projects.

Lulu, 74, said she was absolutely thrilled to start filming a brand new movie next week with actress Diane Keaton, where she will play a character from her own home city.

She said she's looking forward to returning to her roots.

Lulu said: "I'm Scottish and I'll be immediately taking my tour up to Scotland, and by the way next week I start making a movie with Diane Keegan in which I am for the very first time acting in a Glasweigan accent which is so exciting for me so I think the Scottish thing has an influence - 'ye canny kid anybody fae Glasgow!'"

She added: "I've acted but never had any training, so I have been taking acting class and enjoying it, so it would be great to put this in a part, and now I've got the film and I've been asked to do a television series which is an acting role again but the thrill about this one is that I'm scottish I'm actually talking in my accent, back to my roots!"

When asked what the secret to a successful career she simply said: "Passion, you have to love it, don't get full of yourself!"

Lulu, who was born Marie McDonald McLaughlin Lawrie, has always been proud of her Scottish roots,previously saying: “I may not live in Glasgow but I love being Scottish and I am so proud to be Scots.

“Your childhood has a huge bearing on who you are as an individual and I was brought up in Scotland. It’s in my genes."

Lulu will be kicking off her intimate UK tour For The Record in April, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Shout, marking her first tour since 2019.

She will first head up north to Scotland, she said to 'be with my people'.

The show will feature stories from Lulu’s remarkable career – from being friends with The Beatles, marrying a Bee Gee, winning the Eurovision Song Contest to enjoying a colossal hit with Shout, her relationship with David Bowie to the wonder of Relight My Fire, her number one with Take That.
