ST. LOUIS _ Luke Weaver allowed one run over six innings to pick up his first major league win Friday night as the Cardinals defeated Oakland 3-1 at Busch Stadium.
Weaver, who surrendered four hits and struck out seven, received strong support from the bullpen as three relievers combined to allow one hit over the last three innings.
Seung Hwan Oh pitched the ninth for his 13th save after Matt Bowman and Kevin Siegrist pitched 1-2-3 innings in the seventh and eighth.
Jedd Gyorko hit his 22nd home run in the first inning with a man aboard to give the Cardinals a lead they didn't relinquish. They added a run when Jhonny Peralta's sacrifice fly scored Brandon Moss in the sixth.
The only run Weaver allowed was on a homer by Yonder Alonso.
Moss had two hits to continue hit hot hitting in August and scored a run.
