Luke Voit's two home runs power the Yankees to series sweep over Boston

NEW YORK The only thing that could stop the Yankees' dominance over Boston was the weather.

But the rain could only save the Red Sox for so long.

Powered by two home runs from Luke Voit, the Yankees completed the sweep over their AL East rivals with a 6-3 win on Monday in the Bronx.

Aaron Hicks provided another long ball, and closer Aroldis Chapman finished off the ninth in his season debut.

The game was stopped for an hour and 23 minutes due to rain, with the Yankees leading in the top of the fourth.

With the victory, the Yankees have now won their last 10 games against Boston and 15 of the last 16 in the series.

"We have really good players and guys that are confident in their ability, no matter the role," manager Aaron Boone said earlier in the series. "When they're in there, they're going to be counted on to produce and produce in a big way."

The "next man up" Yankees struck again behind a solo home run from Thairo Estrada. Yet, most of the damage came from two old regulars Luke Voit and Aaron Hicks.

Hicks opened the scoring with a two-out RBI double, easily scoring Tyler Wade from first. That second inning shot extended Hicks' on-base streak to 17 games and set up the longest blast of the night.

One batter later, Voit launched a hanging changeup 428 feet to center for his sixth home run of the year. Voit added to that total much later in the night for his fourth career multi-home run game.
