Luke Trotman's football club wishes him luck as he enters the Love Island villa

Darlington FC has wished Love Island bombshell Luke Trotman luck as he enters the swanky villa in South Africa.

Winter Love Island may only be a week in, but things are already heating up - not least for the addition of new bombshell contestant, Luke Trotman.

Viewers were treated to a brief clip at the end of Wednesday (January 22) night's episode, which introduced *two* Lukes.

Now, Trotman's football club, Darlington FC, has shared a message of support for their defender.

Posting on their official website, Luke's club wrote: "Best of luck, Luke!"

They explained that Trotman's decision to appear on the hit ITV2 show had been discussed with the club, before providing additional information about the semi-pro footballer.

"Player of the season in 2018-19 Luke, who is sidelined with an Achilles tendon injury for the rest of this season, has the full backing and full support of the club," they wrote.

The post continued: "The possibility of Luke appearing on Love Island was discussed by Luke and club representatives, and he is doing rehab on the island under physio instruction.

"He has also had a gym access and a programme to continue rehab. We would like to wish Luke the best of luck in his adventure."

The star has previously mentioned his injury on Instagram, sharing a picture of himself lying in a hospital bed last August with his thumbs up.

In the caption, Trotman wrote: "Successful Operation, Road to recovery starts now. Swipe to see me eating hospital food while the surgeon tells me it’s 7-9 months before I’m back playing."
