Luke Shaw spotted with cast on wrist ahead of England's Euro 2020 campaign

Manchester United star Luke Shaw was spotted with a cast on his wrist ahead of Gareth Southgate England squad announcement.

Shaw is expected to be one of the first names on the team sheet this summer after an incredible season at Old Trafford.

The defender, 25, was spotted on Tuesday with a cast around his left wrist.

While the injury isn't expected to rule him out of contention for the European Championships, it's the last thing Southgate will want to see ahead of Wednesday night's game against Austria at the Riverside Stadium.

Shaw was ever-present for United this season having shone following the arrival of Alex Telles.

The defender played 32 Premier League games as well as another ten in Europe.

Shaw's injury clearly didn't have much baring on Soiuthgate's selection, as his name was on the list revealed at 5pm on Tuesday.

The United defender was joined by fellow left-back Ben Chilwell, who was one of three Chelsea players to be included - along with Reece James and Mason Mount.

Southgate announced his squad on Tuesday evening after suffered a setback earlier in the day when Shaw's United team-mate Mason Greenwood withdrew.

The young striker cited a long-standing injury behind his decision to withdraw from the squad.

In a club statement, United confirmed that Greenwood would play no part having struggled to get through the recently-concluded 2020-21 season.

The statement read: "Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood has withdrawn from the provisional England Euro 2020 squad, in order to recover fully from an underlying injury that also kept him out of the Under-21 European Championship in March.

"Mason’s club appearances were managed carefully to maintain his availability through the intensive 2020/21 Premier League and Europa League schedules.

"But a further spell of tournament football would not be beneficial and Mason will remain at Manchester United to recuperate and prepare for pre-season training."

Southgate was already facing a selection headache ahead of Tuesday's announcement, with the right-back position one in which England are flush with quality options.

But the England boss included Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kieran Trippier, Reece James and Kyle Walker after initial reports claimed the Liverpool man would miss out.
