Luke Shaw responds to Jesse Lingard 'claiming' Man Utd goal vs Derby County

Luke Shaw says that there's "no chance" Jesse Lingard can claim what has provisionally gone down only the full-back's second ever goal for Manchester United .

The 24-year-old struck a bouncing effort which thudded into the turf and then appeared to flick Lingard's back before looping into the net for United's opener in their 3-0 win at Derby County in the FA Cup fifth round on Thursday evening .

The strike has gone down as Shaw's goal, meaning that it is only the second he has ever scored in 130 appearances for United, with the only other one coming against Leicester City in the Premier League in the opening game of last season.

Shaw was adamant that this was his goal though, and told BT Sport: "I am claiming it! No chance, he can't claim that! Whatever happens I am claiming it.

"But the most important thing is the win and another clean sheet for the boys. We are in a very confident period. We are scoring and keeping it out at the back. Massive game on Sunday, we are looking forward to that one."

United ultimately made easy work of their Championship opponents on a night they were reunited with their all-time top goalscorer Wayne Rooney, who joined Derby in January.

Rooney went close with a couple of free-kicks which tested Sergio Romero, but United ultimately won thanks to Shaw's strike and an Odion Ighalo brace.

"The first 15-20 minutes was very tough," continued Shaw.

"I don't think we started as well as we could but then we got the goal and from then, we were still under pressure at times, but came through that and got the win."
