Luke Shaw, Raphael Varane, Paul Pogba - Manchester United injury round-up ahead of Watford

Manchester United will be without Raphael Varane for their trip to Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon.

Varane sustained a hamstring injury against Atalanta in the Champions League in October and he was subsequently ruled out for around a month, which means he'll miss the Reds' games against Watford, Villarreal, Chelsea and perhaps even Arsenal.

The Frenchman was sidelined for the Manchester derby in which left-back Luke Shaw suffered a concussion after a clash with Rodri.

It was the international break after that game and Shaw withdrew from the England squad. While 13 days have passed since United's 2-0 defeat to City, Shaw has not appeared in training footage this week, which means he remains a doubt for Saturday's game.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoke at his pre-match press conference on Friday and he gave an update on United's injury news.

"There are a couple of doubts with illnesses and small niggles. Paul is out for a while, Rapha is out for a while, apart from that players will be coming back in the near future, some this weekend, some in the week, but that's the same for other players," said Solskjaer.

Paul Pogba sustained a thigh injury in a France training session during the break and the 28-year-old was seen leaving the session with team doctor Franck Le Gall after appearing to pull up in pain - Pogba later shared footage of himself on crutches on social media.

Pogba withdrew from France's squad following that injury and the potential date of his return is not yet known, though Solskjaer on Friday did not rule out a three-month absence.

"Sometimes you hope, fingers crossed, for six or seven weeks and the worst-case scenario is 10, 11, 12 weeks with muscle injuries like this," said Solskjaer."I'm not a doctor, but he can't say how quickly it will heal. Hopefully just after Christmas we can see him."

Finally, Edinson Cavani was ruled out of the Manchester derby on the eve of the game due to a tendon injury. The centre-forward has been seen recovering in good spirits across the international break since and he could be in contention to play against Watford.
