Luke Shaw praises two Manchester United teammates for performances vs Barcelona in Champions League

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw says two teammates were brilliant against Barcelona in the Champions League.

United put in a sound defensive display despite Shaw's early own goal that gives Barcelona a narrow lead in the quarter final tie ahead of the second leg at the Nou Camp next week.

Central to their performance was the midfield duo of Fred and Scott McTominay, who linked up well to break up Barcelona's midfield passing and link United's play together.

The duo have played second-fiddle to Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera for much of this season, but with those two players injured, McTominay and Fred were given another chance to impress.

It was a similar situation to United's last Champions League tie at PSG, where the duo led United to a famous comeback.

So when Shaw was asked to assess the performance of the new midfield partnership, he was full of praise.

He told MUTV: "Both have been brilliant. Both were brilliant in the tie before against PSG.

"For me especially Scott he was our best player against Wolves last week and he was one of our best players again tonight."

McTominay is finding form at the right time for United, but Shaw said it is no surprise after seeing him in training.

"He's starting to grow in confidence and get that maturity we see day in day out in trianing," Shaw continued.

"We know what he can do and I think he's starting to get more of that belief and show it in matches which is a nice thing to see.

"Hopefully he can continue that because for me know he's in that starting team."
