Luke Shaw makes Manchester United fitness admission

Luke Shaw has revealed he only trained twice with the Manchester United first-team squad in the last six weeks prior to his impressive display against Manchester City.

The left-back impressed as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side were held to a goalless draw by their rivals at Old Trafford.

Shaw had been absent for United for a lengthy period following injury against Everton last month but returned in midweek for their crucial Champions League match at RB Leipzig.

The 25-year-old was unable to do enough as his side were beaten in Germany on Tuesday night, but he impressed with his derby day showing on Saturday night.

Shaw was one of the best performers on a dull night at Old Trafford and his display was even more impressive considering he has trained so little over the past few weeks.

"I have only trained twice, in probably six weeks," Shaw revealed to MUTV. "So it was a very hard game against a very tough team.

"I need that fitness back and you know the team always comes first. It does not matter if I've trained or not if the manager wants me to be available.

"I said to him before the Champions League game 'I'll always be available for the team.' So I'm feeling good."
