Luke Shaw issues apology to Manchester United fans following defeat to Watford

Luke Shaw has apologised to Manchester United fans after they were beaten 2-0 by Watford in the Premier League fixture on Sunday afternoon.

United fell to their fourth away defeat of the season over the weekend as goals from Ismaila Sarr and Troy Deeney secured a shock win for the division's bottom side.

Defeat for United means they head into Christmas eighth in the table, their lowest position at this stage of a season since 1989.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side must now bounce back in style when they host Burnley on Boxing Day, and Shaw took the time to apologise to supporters for the horror show at Vicarage Road.

"Very disappointing," he told MUTV.

"The first-half, quite frankly we were awful. We gave away the ball too many times, we were so sloppy in possession.

"That was kind of embarrassing, the amount of times we gave the ball away. We don't know what went wrong, and the second-half wasn't too much better.

"We tried, especially after going two goals down, we tried to get it back. But we didn't. We didn't take our chances and we paid for our mistakes.

"What is so disappointing is that we were all so confident today. We all felt good, and then we started the first-half like that. We failed to get any momentum in the game, maybe towards the end a little bit.

"For a Man United team and the players we have got this isn't good enough. We all know that in the changing room, the manager knows that and we have got to fix it. I am sorry for the fans who had to see that because they deserve better."
