Luke Shaw injury update ahead of Manchester United's new season

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw is stepping up his recovery from injury ahead of the new Premier League season.

Shaw suffered an ankle injury during United's draw with his former club Southampton on July 13 which sidelined him for the remainder of the league campaign.

The England international was not fit enough to travel to Cologne for the Europa League finals, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hoping to have the defender back in time for the new season.

"Luke will be out until next season," Solskjaer said at the end of July. "That’s a blow for him and a blow for us because he’s been fantastic."

United begin the 2020/21 campaign at home to Crystal Palace on September 19 with players currently on holiday ahead of the new season.

Shaw is among several United players to have selected the Greek island of Mykonos as a holiday destination this summer and he continued to work on his recovery at a popular fitness location used by the likes of Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng and Arsenal star Hector Bellerin. Daniel James has also been using the facility.

Shaw's return will be welcomed by United supporters given his impressive performances over the last year and with Brandon Williams having struggled for form during the run-in.
