Luke Shaw identifies area Manchester United need to improve on after draw with Leeds

Luke Shaw was frustrated at Manchester United's failure to take their chances in the goalless draw at Leeds and has called on his teammates to find a cutting edge in front of goal.

United created the better chances at Elland Road but Marcus Rashford, Daniel James and Bruno Fernandes all missed opportunities to open the scoring.

The point leaves United eight clear of Leicester City in the race for second, although the Foxes have a game in hand, but they're now 10 behind Manchester City and any faint hopes of a title charge have been extinguished.

It was a comfortable afternoon for the defence, but Shaw wants to see a more clinical approach in the final third if his side are to take the next step.

"I don’t think they really had too many chances, we’re defending right, we’ve improved a lot since the start of the season, we were conceding way too many goals and we knew that as a back unit and we’ve worked on that," Shaw told MUTV.

"We need to keep pushing ourselves to be more clinical in front of goal, because a Man United side with the talent we’ve got we need to be winning today."

United didn't create a lot of chances at Elland Road, but they did have the better openings. As a game it was a far cry from the 6-2 at Old Trafford in December, with Shaw noticing the hosts took a different approach this time.

“I think they changed the way they play a little bit, when they came to Old Trafford they were pressing higher and much more aggressively. They were a bit more cautious this time but I still feel we should have won the game," he said.

“They didn't create much for Deano [to deal with], we got in their box numerous times but we weren’t clinical enough. We dropped two points that are crucial.

“We didn’t create too many clear cut chances, but the quality we have in our team, it’s that split second that can win you a game and we’ve got that in abundance, we should be taking chances that we had today. We move on to a very, very important game on Thursday that we need to win."
