Luke Shaw confirms Alex Telles theory with Man Utd training anecdote

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw believes his game has improved since the arrival of Alex Telles last summer.

The left-back is enjoying what is arguably the best season of his career so far.

He’s held down the left-back position well in the face of pressure from Telles and Brandon Williams.

Shaw has featured 14 times in the league, and is widely regarded as one of United’s most improved players this season.

He produced a starring display against Liverpool on Sunday and was a constant threat down the left-hand side.

Many observers believe Shaw’s improvement in form has come as a result of facing serious competition for the first time in his United career.

United have often been short of options at left-back. Ashley Young had a brief period there after Aaron Wan-Bissaka took his spot at right-back, but otherwise they’ve been fairly devoid of top-class options.

And Shaw explained that having Telles alongside him in training has helped to improve his game.

He also took time to praise Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has kept the faith in him despite the arrival of Telles.

The Brazil international, who signed from Porto on transfer deadline day in the summer, has started five Premier League games, though Shaw insists he always wants to see his team-mate do well.

“I feel really good, obviously big credit to Ole for that for believing in me and pushing me,” Shaw said after the goalless draw with Liverpool.

“Alex [Telles] as well, we have a great relationship and he pushes me each day in training.

“We get on really well. It’s nice to have that type of competition, but we push each other to get the best from ourselves.

“When he plays, I want the best for him, and it’s the same the other way round.

“It’s a positive way for both of us to look at it and push each other.”
