Luke Shaw announced as Manchester United players' player of the year

Manchester United have announced Luke Shaw as the winner of the club's Players' Player of the Year.

The left-back has enjoyed some outstanding form over the 2020/21 season and has won the adulation of his United peers to receive the prize.

Shaw was a close second to Bruno Fernandes in the main Sir Matt Busby player of the season award — as voted for by the fans.

But the former Southampton man, whose form looks to have put him in the driving seat for a call-up to England's European Championship squad this summer, was recognised by his fellow players.

One of those who voted for Shaw was felow full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who told United's official website: “I gave my vote to Luke but I think Bruno [Fernandes] was up there as well.

"Luke has been the standout for me, putting in the performances and that pushes me as well, to compete with him, to bring the best out of both of us. He's been positive throughout, making the most of every game. He's not taken his foot off the pedal.“

Shaw inherits the award from Anthony Martial, who won it last year. Shaw follows Cristiano Ronaldo and Antonio Valencia as two-time winners of the prize since it began in 2006, after the left-back took the award in 2018/19. David de Gea is the only player to have won it three times.
