Luke Ming Flanagan appears to join European Parliament conference call 'in underwear' as social media goes wild

Luke Ming Flanagan dared to bare on a conference call with other members of the European Parliament.

The outspoken politician from Co Roscommon wore a black shirt and shorts as exposed his legs during the video chat.

The MEP sat on his bed as he took part in the Agriculture Committee meeting on Tuesday morning to discuss the European Union's long term budget in the Ag sector.

A clip of him speaking went viral on Twitter with several claiming his participated whilst "in his underwear", but the MEP was in fact wearing shorts.

American journalist Dave Keating said: "Did an MEP participate in a European Parliament debate about the EU budget in his underwear? Lockdown lawmaking is getting very weird indeed!"

Another reporter wrote: "MEP @lukeming participating in a committee meeting without his pants is vintage."

Green Party candidate Rob O'Donnell said: "Luke Ming Flanagan living my nightmare getting caught out wearing just undies on a conference call (or maybe he's just that confident?!?)"

A third person said: "Meanwhile, it’s “No Pants Tuesday” at the European Parliament."

Another journalist, James Crisp, posted to Flanagan, saying: "There are claims that MEP Luke Ming Flanagan participated in a European Parliament debate in his underwear. Surely not @lukeming?"

However, it appears the former TD was still in his gym gear after going for a run.

He replied: "Just back from a run James, was in a T-shirt two minutes before.

"Decided to put on shirt to look respectable! That worked really well."

He added: "Hope you like my legs."
