Life has seemed incredibly bizarre lately, and this is also true of the nationwide music scene, with gigs being postponed up and down the country for at least the next few months.
Do not fear, however, as up-and-coming musicians have teamed together to create a series of online concerts in support of grassroots music venues which after all, are the place every musician starts out to showcase their talent.
The series has been named the Sofathon Singalong, which kicked off fully on March 18 with Bathgate singer Luke La Volpe streaming a free live show to his fans over Instagram Live Stream, urging viewers to donate to the charity Music Venue Trust.
The UK charity help to fund grassroots venues and help them to grow and survive in a struggling industry.
Luke went on to nominate a further three artists to stream from their own homes, with Glasgow-based musicians Stephanie Cheape and Kittie having already performed their home gigs. Luke also nominated Black Dove, a four-piece alternative band from Inverclyde, who are also set to support Luke at his rescheduled gig at King Tut’s on September 4.
Word is spreading about the fantastic initiative, with other musicians having already got the ball rolling, including Cameron Barnes, X Factor star Luke Friend, Ryan Keen and Skerryvore singer Alec Dalglish.
Many other artists are also signed up to perform in the coming days, with the Sofathon Singalong team aiming for 24 hours of back-to-back live streamed gigs on April 4.
To get involved, artists have to set up a live stream on Instagram, Facebook or their YouTube and play some tunes!
The Music Venue Trust are also running a crowdfunder entitled FIGHTBACK to raise money for small music venues across Scotland. Musicians then have to nominate three more artists to take part and keep the initiative snowballing.
