Luke Kuechly explains reasons for leaving Panthers’ pro scout position

When former Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly resigned from his position as a pro scout three weeks ago, the details about his departure were relatively unknown. Well, now they’re known, and they couldn’t be more Luke Kuechly if they tried to be.

Upon being honored by the Charlotte Touchdown Club on Thursday afternoon alongside his old pal Thomas Davis, Kuechly said his decision to step away from his role with the Panthers will allow him more time to pursue his other passions. The franchise great noted, in addition to wanting to see more of his family and friends, that he’d like to use the fall season to hunt and fish.

“A lot of that (hunting and fishing) happens in the fall. It’s hard to do both,” Kuechly said of maintaining a job within the sport.

Kuechly also put any comeback thoughts to rest, stating his days on the field are very much over.

“I’m done playing football,” the 30-year-old retiree said. “I’m just going to take my time and see what pops up.”

This is particularly good news for the NFL’s quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers and tight ends alike. Because while Kuechly will continue his hunting hobby, any potential opponents should be glad that it is not them that he’ll be back on the hunt for.
