Luke Kornet celebrates put-back dunk with hilarious dab celebration

Boston Celtics fans were treated to another hilarious Luke Kornet in-game celebration during Boston’s rout of the Chicago Bulls Thursday night. After connecting on a put-back dunk in the fourth quarter, Kornet unleashed a series of dabs as he made his way back on defense.

The dab itself has been a part of culture for decades, showing up in dance, video games, anime, and more. But the move rose to prominence in the mid-2010s thanks to figures like the Migos, Cam Newton, and others. It became something of an internet meme, and peaked in the middle of the last decade.

After the game, Kornet acknowledged the celebration was much more popular years ago, but felt it was time to bring back the move.

Kornet has been a useful backup for Boston’s big man rotation, especially with Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford consistently missing games due to injury management. The Kentucky native is averaging 5.1 points and a career-best 4.0 rebounds in 14.9 minutes per game this season.

Kornet’s dab isn’t the first time he has shown a bit of creativity and swagger on the court. Over the years, he’s busted out a number of celebrations, from looking into his bag of tricks to flapping his hands like a bird.

The win over the Bulls marked Boston’s seventh straight victory, as the team begins to push toward the postseason. Making sure the team has everything sorted by the playoffs — celebrations included — will be critical for a Celtics team with bona fide title aspirations.
