PARKLAND, Fla. _ Luke Hoyer, 15, was confirmed dead Thursday by his grandparents, Eddie and Janice Stroud, who told WYFF News 4 in Simpsonville, S.C.
They were notified by family members that Luke was a victim in the Florida school shooting in Parkland.
He was their youngest grandson. "He was a good kid. He never got into trouble," his grandmother told News 4.
His aunt, Joan Cox, said her nephew loved basketball, according to another TV news report.
The Sun Sentinel reached out to the family in Parkland, but a woman who said she was a friend of the family said she couldn't provide any information.
Luke's uncle, Toni Brownlee, posted on Facebook: "This has devastated our family and we're all in shock and disbelief. Our hearts are broken. Luke was a beautiful human being and greatly loved."
His cousin, Grant Cox, posted that he was devastated and "in disbelief" that his cousin Luke was one of the victims. "Tears will never show you how much I loved Luke. He had a whole life ahead of him and now I live through him," Cox said on Facebook.
