Luke Gale outlines early expectations on new Leeds Rhinos partner Kyle Eastmond

Luke Gale has called on supporters to give Kyle Eastmond the time required to transition back to rugby league.

The pair will link up in the halves for the Rhinos this season after Eastmond's decision to return to the 13-man code after a decade away.

Fans are desperate to see the pair in action together, though there remains some uncertainty over both of them heading into the season opener with Wakefield Trinity on Saturday.

Despite that, Gale couldn't contain his excitement when discussing their soon-to-be partnership.

But he stated that his new partner would need to be given a bedding-in period to adapt to the game again.

"I played with Kyle in the 17s and 18s, he's a great lad," Gale said.

"He looks sharp, he hasn't done much but what he has done has been sharp. I think it will fit nicely when we get together, I lead the team around the field and he's a running threat with a great skill set, I think he will compliment us with Richie Myler at fullback.

"It's a great addition, he might need a bit of time, I wouldn't be expecting fireworks straight away and that's from his own admission, but he's slowly building into it and his touches have been very classy so far."

Should Eastmond not make it, Gale is likely to partner Liam Sutcliffe in the halves on Saturday, should he be cleared to return to the field after tearing his pectoral on the first day of pre-season.
