Luke Freeman could prove key in Sheffield United's pursuit of Nottingham Forest's £15m-rated Matty Cash - report

Sheffield United have already seen one bid rejected for Nottingham Forest star Matty Cash, but it has been revealed there could be a way to get a deal done this summer.

Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi was keen to bring attacking midfielder Luke Freeman to the City Ground in January in a move which failed to materialise.

Forest’s minimum asking price for Cash is believed to be £15m, while it has been claimed Chris Wilder’s Blades have offered £6m, which was immediately turned down by the Championship club.

Now it has been reported by the Athletic that should the Blades include Freeman in a player plus money deal for Cash, then the Reds are likely to be more open to striking a deal.

The 28-year-old former Bristol City star has struggled for regular action at Bramall Lane, playing just 16 times last season, with only 11 of those coming in the Premier League.

Freeman only arrived in the Steel City a year ago, for what was then a club-record £5m fee, and its expected United will want to recoup as much of that as possible.

Head coach Sabri Lamouchi is keen to add more attacking firepower to his squad ahead of the new season, and sees Freeman as the ideal player to operate in the number 10 role, having already seen three bids rejected earlier in the year.
