Luke Ayling outlines what dramatic Manchester City victory means to Leeds United

Luke Ayling was proud to see Leeds United show a different side to their game against Manchester City.

In a dramatic Saturday lunchtime clash against the runaway Premier League table-toppers, the ten-man Whites snatched all three points in memorable circumstances at the death through Stuart Dallas.

The same player had struck earlier in the afternoon, too, while Leeds captain Liam Cooper saw red in the run-up to half-time and Ferran Torres had equalised for City upon the restart.

Despite only having two attempts on target at the Etihad Stadium, the Whites did more than enough to earn their hugely-popular Argentine manager Marcelo Bielsa a Premier League scalp of the highest magnitude.

Ayling played his part, having strapped on the armband in the aftermath of Cooper being dismissed for a challenge on Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus which required VAR intervention.

Speaking to BBC Sport post-match, former Arsenal graduate Ayling said: "Great. I thought we done really well. Dug in at times, but showed a different side to our game. A great goal by the end. A real good win.

"It was more about digging in today. We did well at the start of the second half, they got their goal, so we had to dig in again. It showed a different part of us. Everyone knows we try to get at teams. But today we dug in and that makes me very proud. We looked like lads working hard for each other."

Victory for City at the Etihad Stadium would have seen them move a 17 points ahead of Manchester United at the top of the Premier League standings.

However, as they seek a mid-table finish in their first season back in the big time, Leeds failed to read the script as they delivered a heroic smash-and-grab performance.

Keeping the runaway leaders at bay for the most part, Dallas initially struck after 42 minutes and then proceeded to settle the scores with an accomplished finish as the game headed into added-time.

In scoring his sixth and seventh goals of the Premier League season, the Northern Irishman helped Leeds move into the top-half of the table, with seven fixtures remaining.
