Luke Ayling makes EFL Team of the Week after Bristol City heroics

Luke Ayling's sterling performance and matchwinner for Leeds United this weekend against Bristol City has seen him named in the EFL Team of the Week.

The defender's effort during the first half against his former club - the only goal of the game at Elland Road - helped lift the Whites back to second outright in the race for promotion to the Premier League from the Championship.

Ayling, who has proved a consistent presence for Marcelo Bielsa through a relatively rough mid-season rut, crashed a low finish in at the near-right post following an earlier marauding run into the penalty area.

Coupled with a string of favourable results elsewhere across the second tier, Leeds have seen their advantage in the automatic promotion spots lengthened back to three points over nearest rivals Fulham.

However, Ayling was their only representative in the team of the week, with Kalvin Phillips' talismanic performance in the middle and Kiko Casilla's rock-solid return to form in goal going unrewarded.

Instead, it was a bumper week for League One outfit Ipswich Town, who saw Alan Judge and Kayden Jackson both rewarded for their braces in a 4-1 thrashing of Burton Albion.

Meanwhile, Fleetwood Town boss Joey Barton was named Manager of the Week, while defender Callum Connolly was also honoured for his strike in a 2-1 victory over Peterborough.

Other Championship names picked include Barnsley striker Cauley Woodrow after his side stunned the Cottagers, along with both Blackburn Rovers shotstopper Christian Walton and Millwall vice-captain Shaun Hutchinson.
