Luke Ayling deals Leeds United second major injury blow of the week

Luke Ayling is expected to miss the start of Leeds United’s Championship campaign after undergoing surgery on an ankle injury.

The right-back is yet to feature in pre-season for Marcelo Bielsa after picking up the injury in training before the opening friendlies of the summer.

The 27-year-old was not without injury issues last season either, missing from the starting line-up for seven matches across November and December.

However, Ayling was undisputedly Bielsa’s main man at right-back, making 42 appearances across all competitions in total.

Ayling joins Kemar Roofe, who has also got an ankle problem, in the treatment room at Thorp Arch.

While Roofe’s return has been officially estimated at four weeks from now, Ayling’s period on the sidelines has not been formally released.

More information is expected from head coach Bielsa in the pre-match press conference for Bristol City next Friday.
