Luke Amos continues to impress in the Championship as Spurs duo extend loan deals

A number of players have returned to Tottenham this month following disappointing loan spells away from the club.

Jack Clarke was expected to impress once again for Leeds United in the Championship but only made three appearances in all competitions for Marcelo Bielsa's side, with Cameron Carter-Vickers also heading back to the capital after losing his place in the Stoke City squad following Michael O'Neill's appointment as manager.

Kazaiah Sterling and Anthony Georgiou are also back in N17 after limited gametime at Doncaster Rovers and Ipswich Town respectively.

The end of the quartet's loan spells means that only three players remain out on loan as things stand at present.

However, you would expect the returning youngsters to move on again as they look to gain some valuable experience of playing first-team football.

Here we take a look at how the three players out on loan are faring at present.

Luke Amos

Whereas Clarke and Carter-Vickers struggled on loan in the Championship during the first half of the season, Amos has featured regularly for Queens Park Rangers.

It was always imperative for the 22-year-old to play week in, week out this term after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in September 2018 and he has so far made 19 appearances for Mark Warburton's side.

Playing the full 90 minutes on New Year's Day as QPR hit Cardiff for six, the young midfielder was not part of the squad as they beat Swansea City 5-1 on Sunday.

Amos will be hoping to be back in the starting XI at the weekend as they make the short trip across the capital to play Brentford.

Jack Roles

Roles will continue his development at Cambridge United after extending his loan deal until the end of the season.

The midfielder's initial deal concluded on Sunday, January 5 but the League Two side were always keen to keep him at the Abbey Stadium after impressing in his first few months at the club.

Speaking to the club's official website about his new loan deal, Roles said: "I've really enjoyed my first loan in senior football so far, and I'm grateful to Cambridge United for extending my loan and for the chance they have given me.

"I'm looking forward to continuing my development in first team football under Colin (Calderwood) and want to repay him and the Club with good performances.

"I would also like to thank all the supporters who have been brilliant week in week out."

Having played the full game on New Year's Day in the 3-2 defeat against Mansfield Town, the 20-year-old was substituted off three days later in the 1-0 loss at Macclesfield Town with an apparent hamstring injury.

However, manager Colin Calderwood has confirmed that his injury is a result of the workload on his hips and he is likely to miss Saturday's game against Exeter City.

George Marsh

Marsh will also be remaining in League Two for the rest of the season after extending his loan deal at Leyton Orient.

The midfielder has so far made 18 appearances for Orient and he was last involved on New Year's Day in the 1-0 defeat at Walsall as he played the full 90 minutes.

"He came out here on his first loan and has played a lot of football; it was a slow start, but I think he has really shown everyone here what he is about as a character, what he is about athletically and the quality he has got as a footballer," said manager Ross Embleton.

"We’re delighted to have him. From our perspective he is a good player that we can have again for the second half of the season.”
