Lukasz Fabianski injury: West Ham goalkeeper suffers fresh setback at Sheffield United

West Ham suffered yet another injury blow as goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski was forced off less than 15 minutes into Friday night’s Premier League clash with Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

The Polish stopper only returned from injury in the 2-1 defeat to Leicester on December 28, having missed 11 league games after injuring his hip in a draw with Bournemouth in September.

However, the 34-year-old signalled to the bench immediately after taking a goal-kick, signalling that he could not carry on, and was replaced by David Martin.

Fabianski’s last sustained absence coincided with a run of eight defeats in 11 games for the Hammers, with reserve keeper Roberto making a series of high-profile errors before eventually being replaced by then third-choice Martin.

New Irons boss David Moyes appears to have made bringing in improved back-up a priority during the January transfer window, with the club expected to re-sign Republic of Ireland international Darren Randolph from Middlesbrough, provided he can prove his fitness.
