Lukas Podolski makes Mesut Ozil prediction that Arsenal fans will love

Former Arsenal striker believes Mesut Ozil's reunion with head coach Mikel Arteta at the Emirates Stadium could help get his Gunners career back on track.

The former Germany international, who joined the Gunners from Real Madrid back in 2013, has struggled to hit the high notes in recent seasons and was effectively frozen out by former Arsenal chief Unai Emery.

But following Arteta's appointment in December, the former Real Madrid man, who has racked up more than 250 appearances during his time with the Gunners, began to show glimpses of what he truly is capable of, scoring once and registering one assist in the three matches prior to the season being suspended because of the COVID-19 crisis.

Despite the break probably coming at the worst possible time for Ozil, as he was just beginning to rediscover some form, Podolski believes that Ozil working alongside Arteta, who he often shared the midfield responsibilities with during the Spaniard's time as a player at the Emirates Stadium, could be a huge benefit to the German's aspirations of getting his career back on track once again.

“There is no discussion for me, he is a great player," Podolski told Sky Sports. "Sometimes there is a problem with a coach or there could be an injury, things that happen in football and you have to deal with this situation sometimes.

“I think it's a better fit than before [Ozil and Arteta]. They have played together and know each other. Ozil is back on the pitch and the games I have seen he is doing much better than with the former coach.

“Sometimes you have a coach and you cannot deal with him. He can have a different view of football. Arteta is back at Arsenal and you see the team is much more organised, more fight and discipline.

“I hope they can build a good team for the next couple of years. They can do it but they have to work together.”

Podolski left Arsenal in 2015 after a three-year stay in North London, during which time he scored 31 goals in 82 appearances.
