Luka Vuskovic: Tottenham get injury blow as loan star's knee 'severely damaged'

Tottenham loan star Luka Vuskovic is facing an indefinite spell on the sidelines with a ‘severe’ knee injury.

The Croatian centre-back, 19, has dazzled during his spell with Hamburger SV, serving as a keystone member of a stalwart defensive unit while also adding goals to his game.

But he has been out since April 7 with a knee injury sustained in training, his most recent Bundesliga appearance coming in a 1-1 draw with Augsburg.

And concerning new reports from BILD suggest he could be in for an extended spell out.

The German tabloid claims his knee is “more severely damaged” than first thought. Having already spent two weeks out, he is yet to return to the pitch in any capacity and it remains unclear when that might happen.

It had been hoped he might return as Hamburger face Hoffenheim this Saturday, but this no longer seems likely.

Tottenham’s plans for Vuskovic are not entirely clear, and may well hinge on the outcome of the Premier League side’s ongoing relegation scrap.

They signed the defender from Hajduk Split last summer and he impressed in pre-season before being sent to Hamburger, who sit 14th in the Bundesliga with four matches left to play.

His impressive performances have seen him linked with a host of clubs across Europe, with Bayern Munich perhaps the most notable suitor.

But, speaking earlier this month, Vuskovic refused to close the door on a return to Tottenham.

"In football, you never know,” he said, asked when he might return to N17. “It could happen next year, or in ten years. I don't want to promise anyone anything.

“After this season, I'll be a Tottenham player again. I have a contract there until 2030.”
