Luka Jovic scouting report: The striker Chelsea desperately need but it's all too late

Chelsea got a close look at Luka Jovic last night in the Europa League semi-final first leg with Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 21-year-old has been one of the talks of the season after a massively impressive campaign in both the Bundesliga and the Europa League.

Jovic has netted 17 times in the league, while he notched up his ninth in Europe with the opening goal in the 1-1 draw with the Blues at the Commerzbank-Arena.

The sucker for many clubs is the the obvious talent that the Serbian possesses and just how cheap Frankfurt were able to get the striker from Benfica for.

Sarri's risk and Loftus-Cheek miles above the rest - 5 Key points from Chelsea draw in Frankfurt

Jovic was on loan from the Portuguese club, however they were able to exercise the clause to sign him on a permanent deal for around €7million. A fee that is nothing in the modern game these days.

Chelsea picked up Alvaro Morata for around £60million, Olivier Giroud for around £15million and if they are to keep Gonzalo Higuain then it would cost them a similar number.

Getting a number nine in has been a big issue for Chelsea, and missing out on Jovic or not going for the Serb is one of those 'what if?' moments.

It took him just 23 minutes to show Chelsea what he was all about with a stunning header to give Frankfurt the lead. But it wasn't just the finish that was impressive.

Jovic started the move with the breakaway, finding Filip Kostic on the left wing before finding the space that he needed to get on the end of the cross.

Fingers could be pointed at David Luiz and Andreas Christensen for not picking up the striker, however Jovic's movement was sublime. The header was even better, having to bend his body at a difficult angle to get it on target and into the corner of the net.

Jovic is the not the perfect striker, yet. With 17 Bundesliga goals and nine more in the Europa League it is obvious that he has an eye for goal.

However, there was some weakness in his play. Jovic is not the all-round striker yet. His hold up play at times was sloppy and sometimes put his team in danger.

But it is clear to see why some of the biggest clubs in the world are looking at him, including Real Madrid.

However, for Chelsea the time might have passed for them to make their mark in signing him, and they could well regret it.

What Sarri said

"We need to be careful [in the second leg]. We need to play with the same mentality.

"They are very dangerous especially with Jovic. They are dynamic and very aggressive."
