Luka Jovic keen to leave Real Madrid as Arsenal continue to be linked with transfer

Arsenal are reported to be in pole position to land wantaway Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic this summer. The 24-year-old has been long been a reported target for the Gunners and is now very keen to leave the Spanish league leaders.

Jovic has endured a difficult spell in the Spanish capital since his move from back Benfica in 2019, scoring just 3 goals in 49 appearances for Carlo Ancelotti's side.

With Arsenal's priority most certainly centred around a striker this summer, Edu and his team have been placed on high alert surrounding a number of Europe's leading number nines.

Alexander Isaak, Darwin Nunez and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have all been cited as potential targets, while Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah both look likely to leave the club upon the expiry of their current deals. According to TeamTalk, the striker could perhaps swap the Bernabeu for the Emirates in a deal totalling just £25million.

Karim Benzema has hit the headlines for his goalscoring antics this season - including his stunning hat-trick in the 3-1 win over Chelsea in the Champions League last week - with Jovic's last appearance coming in the final 20 minutes of the sides 0-0 draw with Villarreal in February.

Whilst Real chase their own targets in the forward department, now could be the perfect time for the Gunners to make a move for a player who has shown across the last few seasons that he could be a real asset if used correctly.

Ancelotti's side are aiming for a European and domestic double this season, given their healthy lead heading into Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final, second leg with Chelsea.
