Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic scored the first ever 60-point triple-double in Tuesday night's win over the New York Knicks with the Slovenian's efforts securing an incredible comeback.
With just 33 seconds to go, the Mavericks were down by nine points, with Doncic scoring the points to help put the team down just two points. Doncic would go to the free throw line with one shot, but needed to score two to complete the comeback to take the game to overtime.
The 23-year-old then intentionally missed a free throw, secured the rebound and scored to add two points to force an overtime, where the Mavericks went on and won.
Doncic finished with 60 points, 21 rebounds and 10 assists - being the first to ever do so with 60 points and the youngest with a 50-point triple-double since the late, great Wilt Chamberlain.
And whilst his individual stat-line broke records, so did the team's comeback.
NBA teams had been 0-13884 (W-L) in the last 20 seasons when trailing by at least nine with 35 or fewer seconds remaining - with the Mavericks breaking that duck and becoming the first team to do so.
Speaking after the game, Doncic said: "I'm tired as hell, I need a recovery beer."
On the intentional missed free throw to secure the game going to overtime, he added: "I just threw it up, I was kind of lucky. We were down, we came back, this is an amazing feeling."
The performance will now see Doncic rise in the MVP race, as he continues with his amazing season with the Mavericks. The European star is now averaging an incredibly 34 points, nine rebounds and nine assists, with the only thing keeping him out of the top spot is the team's struggles - only sitting in sixth in the western conference.
The Mavericks now have a favourable run of games coming up around the holidays and into January, and will look to vault up the western conference heading into the half-way point of the season.
Doncic will be in an MVP race with the likes of Jayson Tatum (Celtics), Giannis Antetokounmpo (Bucks), Nikola Jokic (Nuggets) and Kevin Durant (Nets).
