One of Verdi’s earliest operas, Luisa Miller tells of a bitter class struggle and generational conflict. Luisa is trapped by a man she does not love, and a father who loves her too much. Verdi’s heroine is fragile, her lover is complicated, and her father is worried. The story is at once domestic and political and the characters are compelling in their humanity.
Australian soprano Nicole Car plays Luisa, a woman in love and in anguish, while Giancarlo del Monarco directs this three act co-production between Opera Australia and Opera de Lausanne.
