Luis Suarez spots difference between 2014 Liverpool team and current title-chasers

Luis Suarez believes the Liverpool side he played in is 'totally inferior' to Jurgen Klopp's current crop.

The Uruguayan will line up against his former club for the first time when they face Barcelona in the semi-finals of the Champions League next week.

Liverpool remain in the hunt for a sensational double with the Reds' title battle with Manchester City set to go right down to the wire.

It is the closest Liverpool have come to winning their first ever Premier League crown since finishing second in 2014, when Suarez plundered an impressive 31 goals.

And he believes it would have been "an even bigger achievement" to finish top of the pile back then.

"This is a period in which any player would want to go to Liverpool. I remember that when I was there that wasn't the case. It was a very different time," he told the Mail.

Luis Suarez reveals whether he will celebrate if he scores against Liverpool

Suarez admits there was a sense of 'now or never' in 2014 as Liverpool closed in on the title before slipping up late on, losing to Chelsea and throwing away a 3-0 lead at Crystal Palace .

It has taken them a while to challenge for the title again, although Liverpool have bounced back from their Champions League final disappointment last term.

And Suarez believes that setback in Kiev will stand them in good stead in the final weeks of the season.

Premier League predictions: Robbie Savage gives verdict on Man Utd vs Chelsea

"For the current squad this is the second season they have been in contention and last year they played in the Champions League final. They have more experience. They know how to approach the games," he added.

"That makes you stronger and it will give them that right amount of caution and understanding.'

Liverpool travel to the Nou Camp for the first leg of the Champions League semi-final on Wednesday before the return at Anfield the following week.
