The 32-year-old's future is now in doubt, with Spanish publication Sport reporting: "That bad feeling between the board and sporting department towards Suarez means that the striker is now considered 'transferable'.

"His good relationship with (Lionel) Messi means he's often viewed as untouchable but he was singled out for his performances against Liverpool in the Champions League."

The former Ajax man responded to claims made against his commitment on social media as he shared a statement with his followers.

Suarez wrote: "The injury that led to surgery has nothing to do with my cartilage but because of a torn meniscus that I suffered in the match against Liverpool, which is why I felt obligated to undergo surgery and miss yesterday's final against my will."
