Luis Suarez's furious outburst at Diego Simeone after being hauled off for Atletico

Luis Suarez launched a foul-mouthed rant as his frustrations at Atletico Madrid threatened to boil over.

The Uruguayan has scored just once in his last ten games for the La Liga champions as their title defence has hit a major speedbump.

The 2-1 defeat to Sevilla at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan means Atleti have lost their last three in the league and trail league leaders Real Madrid by 13 points.

At this point, a title challenge for Diego Simeone’s charges looks impossible, with a battle to secure a top-four finish their main priority.

After helping Atleti to the title in his first season with Atleti, Suarez got off to a hot start scoring nine times in the first ten games of the campaign.

But in his last 11 games, he has scored just once, with that goal coming back at the start of November.

Suarez has also found himself in and out of Simeone’s starting XI, starting from the bench in three of the last four league fixtures.

Against Sevilla, the 34-year-old was handed a start, but with the score at 1-1 and his side chasing a victory, Simeone opted to withdraw Suarez shortly before the hour mark.

The former Liverpool striker was visibly frustrated by the decision and was spotted on camera shouting furiously in Spanish: “f****** idiot, always the same”.

It was unclear where the abuse was directed, but it certainly seemed to be in the direction of his manager,

Suarez is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, having signed a two year deal at the Wanda Metropolitano after leaving Barcelona.

His former team-mate at Anfield Glen Johnson, recently told Mirror Sport that he would be open to a return to Merseyside, should the timing work for both parties.

“I guess it’s all about timing. I’m sure he’d love to play for Liverpool again, he’s loved by the club, he loves the club, so it wouldn’t surprise me,” Johnson explained.

“But everything is about timing, it’s all about if the opportunity is there, the door is open, if his contract is running out at the right time because Liverpool wouldn’t buy him.

“But I think if he was in a similar situation to Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of timing, then I think he would yes.”
