Luis Suarez's Champions League away-day goal drought does not worry Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde

Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde says he is not worried by the fact that Luis Suarez has failed to score away from home in the Champions League since 2015.

Suarez last netted on the road in Europe in a 1-1 draw at Roma in September 2015 and in the pre-match press conference ahead of Barca's game against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, a journalist told Valverde it had been exactly four years since that goal.

"You'll have to congratulate him," Valverde said sarcastically, the Barca boss having been asked about the Uruguayan's lack of goals away from home in Europe on a number of occasions last season.

"Luis is a very insistent player," he went on to add. "Last year, he was unlucky that his header in Manchester went in off a defender and he wasn't given the goal (in the quarter-final win over United at Old Trafford).

"If they had given him the goal, we wouldn't be talking about this.

"We're clear that he'll keep trying and I hope there's no repeat of the question."

Suarez returned from a calf injury as a substitute against Valencia at the weekend and scored twice in Barca's 5-2 win. Valverde revealed he could now start against Dortmund.

"The other day he took an important step by playing," he said. "We don't want to give him too much of a load, but we think he could start tomorrow."
